La Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis treats and accompanies women in difficulty or victims of violence every day. In the context of women who have been excised, it seems essential to explain to them before surgery what their gynecologist is going to do, especially what will be reconstructed or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CHALLENGE<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

However, vulvar anatomy is not well known and getting the right messages across can be a complex task. Usually diagrams illustrating the anatomy are used, but they are usually difficult for patients to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GOAL<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The gynecology department wanted their consultation to take place in 2 stages. First, a “mirror” examination so that the patient can observe her anatomy. Then, using an anatomical model to compare with an unexcised anatomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RESULTS<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

3D printing brings the possibility of producing casts of any type and to personalize anatomical models. Seeing the anatomy in 3D greatly contributes to the therapeutic education of excised patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
